Igor Xavier murdered with five shots in the city of Montes Claros, State of Minas Gerais, Brazil

This Tuesday, a historical judgement is be held in Lafayette Court (Fórum Lafayette), district of Barro Preto, Center-South region of Belo Horizonte in the State of Minas Gerais - Brazil.

Defendants Ricardo Athayde Vasconcelos, 58, and his son, Diego Rodrigues, 30, will be judged for the murder of gay actor and ballet dancer Igor Leonardo Xavier, killed a couple of days before turning 30 years old, in March, 2002.

According to investigations, one of the defendants killed the ballet dancer because he felt “horror to homosexuals”.

The judgement will be held from this Tuesday, Aug 27.

The victim was murdered 11 years ago in Montes Claros, a city in the Brazilian State of Minas Gerais. Investigations have found that Igor met Ricardo at a bar, who introduced himself as an art supporter and invited the young man to his house.

There, he would have seen Igor flirting with his son. So, he got a pistol and a revolver and shot five times against the young man. One of the bullets hit Igor’s nape.

After the crime, the suspects ran away with Ricardo’s brother’s help. The body was found, on the following day, on a road that connects Montes Claros to a neighbor city.

The judgement has been postponed three times already. However, the family’s lawyer, Ernesto Queiroz, will request their ‘preventive prison’ if it happens once again.

“They have been trying to postpone the trial so the crime may expire”, says  Queiroz.
